JORDANVILLE: September 11, 2006
A Colloquium on Metropolitan Anthony (Khrapovitsky) is Scheduled for October

Holy Trinity Seminary has announced that a "Colloquium Dedicated to the Legacy of Metropolitan Anthony (Khrapovitsky) (1863-1936)" is scheduled to be held in Jordanville, NY, on October 6-7, 2006.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of Metropolitan Anthony (Khrapovitsky's) repose. One of the most gifted and influential Russian church leaders in modern times, Metropolitan Anthony has long interested theologians and historians alike. His life captures the complex history of the Russian Orthodox Church in the twentieth century.

A graduate of St Petersburg Theological Academy, Khrapovitsky was consecrated bishop in 1897 and assigned to the highly-charged bishopric of Volhynia. He was selected a member of the Holy Synod in 1912, served as archbishop of Kharkov from 1914 to 1917, and was elected Metropolitan of Kiev in 1918. A participant in the 1917-18 Pan-Russian Orthodox Council, Metropolitan Anthony was one of the three final candidates for the Russian patriarchate. The Bolshevik occupation of Ukraine forced him to flee to Sremski Karlovci, Yugoslavia, where in 1920 he assumed the leadership of the Russian Orthodox Church in exile.

Holy Trinity Seminary looks forward to a detailed discussion of the rich legacy of one of the central figures in the history of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia.
