Bishop John of Caracas and South America Celebrates Holy Pentecost at Holy Trinity Church
The feast day of the Holy Pentecost was a special day for the parishioners and worshipers of Holy Trinity Church in Santiago, Chile. For the first time in many years, on the weekend of May 30-31, 2015, a bishop of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia celebrated Divine Liturgy at the church. The church and parish can now be said to have returned to the bosom of the Russian Church Abroad, to which it had belonged since its founding.
The festive services were performed by His Grace Bishop John of Caracas and South America, who is making an archpastoral visit to Chile. Participating in divine services were parishioners of the Russian - Serbian community of Saint Nicholas of Ochrid the Miracle-worker, and the community of Saint Nectarios, Metropolitan of Pentapolis.
We hope that Holy Trinity Church will once again become the center of Russian Orthodox Chrisitans of Chile, a meeting place for the Russian community, of immigrants of various waves and their descendants who were born and raised in Chile, people with widely differing backgrounds coming together. We also hope that the joy of the return of this parish to the Russian Orthodox Church is shared by all Orthodox Christians.
