On September 20th, 2019, the miracle-working Kursk-Root Icon of the Mother of God "of the Sign" was brought to the Kursk-Root Hermitage of the Nativity of the Most-Holy Mother of God, where the image was first discovered in the year 1295. This icon of the Mother of God is now the “Hodigitria” [“Shower of the Way”] of the Russian diaspora and performs a great mission, visiting many nations of the world, uniting and supporting Orthodox Christians everywhere. At the gates of this ancient monastery, the icon was brought by a delegation of clergymen of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, headed by His Grace Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan. He was greeted by His Eminence Metropolitan German of Kursk and Rylsk; Bishop Benjamin of Zheleznogorsk and Lgovsk; Bishop Paisius of Shchigrovsk and Manturovsk, Abbot of the monastery; its prior, Hegumen Seraphim (Kotelnikov) of the Hermitage, Abbott Seraphim and his monks, the clergymen of the Kursk Metropolitan and other pilgrims. Under the singing of the troparion and the peaing of bells, a procession of the cross brought the holy image under the vaulted ceilings of the cathedral, where a prayer service to the Queen of Heaven was performed. Access to the icon for the veneration by the believers was given on a 24-hour basis. Metropolitan German congratulated all the worshipers on this joyous event: the return of the miracle-working image to the Kursk Metropoliate, where the icon was first found. His Eminence expressed his heartful gratitude to the delegation of the Russian Church Abroad for bringing this great joy to all of the people of the city, and for the possibility to pray before the icon. Prayer services will be conducted around the clock, and on September 25th, after Divine Liturgy, which will begin at 7 am, the traditional procession of the cross with the icon will take place to Znamensky Cathedral in Kursk, where it will remain until October 3rd. курская-епархия.рф
