The First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad will visit the Serbian Orthodox Church to accompany the Kursk-Root Icon of the Mother of God
From June 11-20, 2024, at the invitation of His Holiness Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia, His Eminence Metropolitan Nicholas of Eastern America and New York, First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, will visit the Serbian Orthodox Church with the Kursk-Root Icon of the Mother of God "of the Sign." The main purpose of the visit is to provide the Serbian Orthodox people with the opportunity to venerate the miraculous icon that left Serbia 80 years ago.
On the feast of the Ascension of the Lord, a large procession of the cross will take place through the streets of Belgrade with the Kursk Icon of the Mother of God and other shrines. Metropolitan Nicholas and his entourage are expected to visit churches and monasteries of the Serbian Orthodox Church and historical sites related to the presence of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia in Serbia. Following the blessing of His Holiness, the Synod of Bishops will hold a solemn session in Sremski Karlovci, presumably on Friday.
